Everton have agreed a £5million fee with River Plate in their efforts to sign Villarreal target Ramiro Funes Mori, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
The 24-year-old is one of the many defensive candidates manager Roberto Martinez has been tracking amid speculation that John Stones could leave for Chelsea this summer.
Stones is being linked with a mega £40million deal with the Premier League champions as Blues boss Jose Mourinho looks to reinforce his back line before the close of the current window.
Villarreal are also interested in the services of the centre-back, but despite ongoing talks, they are yet to match the Toffees’ £5million offer.
Martinez is also hoping the addition of the Argentina international can help increase his defensive options following the departures of both Sylvain Distin and Antonio Alcaraz.
He featured a total of 49 times in all competitions for his side last term, scoring six goals and helped his team win the Copa Libertadores.
