Everton set to offer lucrative contract to keep MVP

Everton are set to offer Romelu Lukaku £135,000-a-week in order to stay at Goodison Park, reports the Mirror.

The Belgian forward has been heavily linked with a return to Chelsea, and reports suggest the player is keen to go back to Stamford Bridge, with a point to prove.

The Mirror claim that Everton rejected a £57million bid from the Blues recently, with Ronald Koeman desperate to keep hold of the 23-year-old. Lukaku scored 18 Premier League goals last season, his highest tally for a single season.

The former Chelsea striker has netted double figures in each of his 3 Everton seasons, as well as in his loan spell at West Brom back in the 2012-13 campaign. But the Belgian is still yet to play UEFA Champions League football during his time in England, only briefly tasting the competition during his time at Anderlecht.

Despite the transfer rumours, Lukaku has featured for Everton during their preseason games, and started in the 0-0 draw for Wayne Rooney’s testimonial earlier this week. And Koeman is hoping the new contract will tempt Lukaku into staying.
