Everton star Romelu Lukaku has praised the club’s handling of Chelsea target John Stones during the summer, according to reports from the Express.
The Blues were constantly trying to lure Stones away from Goodison Park, but despite four offers worth up to £37million being tabled, his exit was denied.
Lukaku admitted that retaining the services of the England international is a sign of the clubs intentions as he hopes to help his teammate reach his full potential.
“It’s a statement for the club, for me,” he told Sky Sports.
“It’s nice to see that John showed his character and the club did their job to keep the player.
“But it’s up to us to help John improve to reach the top level, as he is doing at the moment. I think the club made a statement by keeping him here at the club.”
However, the current Premier League champions are still keen to lure the defender to their club and could once again reignite interest in his services during the upcoming window.
Manager Jose Mourinho has seen a number of poor performances from his team this season and will be looking to reinforce his back line after already losing 14 goals this term.
