Everton star John Stones could lose his place in the England first team after manager Roy Hodgson hit out at his recent displays, Mirror reports.
The 21-year-old has been linked with a host of European giants including Chelsea, Manchester United, and Barcelona.
However, Stones has struggled to replicate the form which saw him be valued at around the £50million region, with Hodgson urging him to stop making unnecessary mistakes.
“Not long ago he was being touted as the best centre half in the country and that all the best teams wanted him,” he said.
“He is comfortable, composed and look how good he is bringing ball out. Then he makes a couple of mistakes and we want to put it back on his head.
“I will stay consistent. I expect him to keep doing what he’s good at. He needs to understand that as a centre half at a top club you can’t make a lot of mistakes, you have to cut out those mistakes. But you don’t have to change your game and start booting the ball out of the field.”
The Blues failed four previous attempts to sign him ahead of the January window, an outcome that has seen his price rise immensely over the course of the campaign.
He has now lost his place under manager Roberto Martinez with the Toffees as Ramiro Funes Mori is now the preferred choice alongside defensive partner Phil Jagielka.
The centre-back is also said to be behind United’s Chris Smalling as well as Blues star Gary Cahill in the Three Lions pecking order.
He has already featured 31 times in all competitions for his side this term but is yet to register a single goal or assist.
