Everton turned down superstar West Ham attacker

Everton rejected the chance to sign West Ham’s Dimitri Payet when the French playmaker was at Marseille, according to The Mirror.

The gifted attacking midfielder has been a revelation since moving from his homeland to England, with the star becoming an instant hit with the Hammers fans.

There is an argument to suggest that Payet has been the signing of the season, with the creative attacker a key man for Slaven Bilic’s side.

It is believed that the Toffees ran the rule over the gifted playmaker but decided to let others make their move for him.

Everton are reliant on their own superstar schemer, with Ross Barkley continuing to impress at the Merseyside club.

Martinez admitted that the England international is an essential player for Everton and that he needed time to grow into the player he currently is.

“I always felt that Ross would be our number 10 and he needed that space – definitely,” the Spaniard stated.

“Ross has matured this season, no doubt. He has progressed and he needed that time to show what he can become.”

Everton and West Ham are set to clash this weekend in the Premier League, with both sides having outside ambitions of finishing in the top four.
