Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has allowed defender Patrice Evra extra time off after another gruelling campaign.
The France left-back featured for his country at the World Cup finals this summer and the 29-year-old is likely to be unavailable for the Red Devils' Premier League opener against Newcastle United on August 16.
"We decided to give Patrice more rest," Ferguson said."Over the last five years he has played an average of 55 games a year.
"This summer he has had the World Cup as well so we felt he deserved another week's rest.
"He started training yesterday and won't be available until into the season."
