Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson believes that Chelsea captain John Terry is not good enough to play at an elite level anymore.

The ex-England captain will leave the West London outfit at the end of the season after spending 22 years of his life associated with the club.

During his time with the Blues, Terry helped the club win 14 major trophies, but he has made just 10 appearances in all competitions this season due to a mix of injuries and falling down the pecking order.

After manager Antonio Conte adopted a three-man defence, Terry struggled to get a look-in due to Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz and Gary Cahill standing in his way.

In a statement on Chelsea’s official website, Terry revealed that he intends to keep on playing when he departs Stamford Bridge, which has led to rumours about possible destinations.

During an interview with talkSPORT, Robson was asked whether Terry would be a good option for Arsenal, who seem to be struggling for leaders.

However, the former midfielder believes that the 36-year-old can no longer cut it at the top clubs.

"He would have to move down [a level] slightly. I don't think he is the top player he was. He has been a brilliant player for Chelsea, he was a brilliant player for England, but he lacks mobility now.

"Players in the Premier League need to be mobile - they can't be static. He can't play in a three at the back and I'm not sure he can play in a two now. He needs too much protection. An excellent player, but I think he probably knows he can't play at the very top any more.”
