Former Arsenal player Paul Merson believes that Tottenham Hotspur will make it through this weekend’s Premier League match against Watford in “comfortable” fashion.
Much like last season, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have emerged as the closest contenders to the Premier League title.
In the 2015-16 campaign they crumbled in the final few games to effectively hand the crown to Leicester City, who were expected to take home the glory anyway.
In similar circumstances, Chelsea are on course to become champions as they hold a seven-point lead with eight games left to play, but Spurs could are the ones who can put pressure on Antonio Conte’s men.
Tottenham showed their grit and desire when they came from 1-0 down after 88 minutes to claim a 3-1 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night.
What was perhaps even more impressive is that they did it without the likes of Harry Kane and Victor Wanyama.
This Saturday, they welcome Watford to White Hart Lane, and Merson has predicted that Spurs will ease to a 3-0 win on home turf.
He told Sky Sports:
“Tottenham had a great result at Swansea after being 1-0 down so late on. They can close the gap on Chelsea in the next couple of weeks and can put the pressure on again with a win on Saturday afternoon. Watford got a great win in midweek over West Brom, but this should be comfortable for Tottenham.”
