Former Liverpool ace Steve Nicol is bewildered at the Reds poor form this season, stating something has gone wrong at the club, talkSPORT reports.
The Anfield club succumbed to a 1-0 loss against Newcastle United on Saturday, making it their fourth loss in the campaign compared to a total of six last season.
Liverpool were extremely close to winning the title back in May and with many expecting the Reds to improve on last season’s achievement, Brendan Rodgers side have been disappointing thus far.
Nicol has therefore questioned Rodgers tactics, as well as all the new players he purchased during the summer.
“To say they’ve been a disappointment is an understatement,” Nicol told Extra Time. “[This season] has been an absolute disaster. There is only one man missing from the squad they had last year and that’s Luis Suarez, everybody else is still there.
“Something has gone wrong somewhere down the line. All this teamwork and all this chemistry they had last year has disappeared.
“The biggest question isn’t about Brendan’s tactics, which are questionable. The biggest question is actually, who is making the decisions on the signings?
“When you finish second in the Premier League and you have the amount of money Liverpool had to spend and you don’t spend it wisely that is the question I would be asking. Who signed these guys?”
Liverpool face Real Madrid away in the Champions League this week before hosting top-of-the-table Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday.
