Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur’s victory at the weekend demonstrates how manager Mauricio Pochettino has got the team moving in the right direction.

A 2-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor put Spurs in a strong position, particularly after Premier League leaders Chelsea were stunned in a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino and his men are the closest challengers to Chelsea’s top spot as they reside second in the table, seven points adrift with nine games left to play.

Liverpool sit three points behind in third, but the North London outfit have a game in hand, which puts them in an ideal position heading into the closing stages of the campaign.

As far as Babb is concerned, even if winning the title is a step too far for Spurs this season, he believes that the future is very bright under Pochettino.

The former Republic of Ireland international told Sky Sports' Goals on Sunday:

"They are great to watch, great players and the manager has done a fantastic job. He has got a young side that just seems to be growing and growing in belief and the club are onwards and upwards with a new stadium and tying down those key young players as well. They are going places and of course, they still have their eye on closing down the gap between them and Chelsea.”
