Former Manchester United attacker Dimitar Berbatov is currently in talks to join Aston Villa, with his move not subject to the transfer deadline as he is a free agent, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
Villa have been heavily linked with a move for a striker for much of the summer, with the likes of Queens Park Rangers star Charlie Austin and Tottenham Hotspurs’ Emmanuel Adebayor reportedly on their wishlist.
However, Villa boss Tim Sherwood was unwilling to pay £15million for Austin, while Adebayor was reluctant to move from London to the Midlands.
This has seen Bulgaria international Berbatov come up as their best option, with the deal still in the works despite passing the 6pm transfer deadline.
Berbatov made 38 appearances for the Ligue-1 side last season, scoring nine goals.
