Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp thinks that Jurgen Klopp was not Liverpool’s first choice to become their new manager, according to reports from the Express.
Klopp was named as the new Reds gaffer last Thursday, only a week after Brendan Rodgers was sacked from the role.
And the German has been under the limelight since the appointment, with the media and supporters excited over his capture.
However, Redknapp believes that ex-AC Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti was in fact the Merseyside club’s first choice to take over the Anfield helm, but the two-time Champions League winner wanted to take a break from football to recover from a back surgery and will only look for a new job next summer.
He said on BT Sport: “I think Ancelotti was first choice for the Liverpool job.
“Was he [Klopp] first choice? He is a good choice.
“But I don’t know if he was first choice.”
Klopp has a daunting first few games as the new manager of Liverpool, with the Reds playing Spurs at White Hart Lane in their first fixture, before facing Southampton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, and then Manchester City.
