FA Cup round-up: Man City survive major scare

Manchester City were on the verge of a major shock in the FA Cup Fourth Round against struggling Championship side Watford before a Sergio Aguero hat-trick turned the game around.

City found themselves 2-0 down at home to the Hornets before coming back to keep their attempts at a quadruple trophy haul with a 4-2 victory.

There were also convincing wins for the two Merseyside clubs as Liverpool overcame Bournemouth and Everton trounced Stevenage in the two televised games.

On a day with very few surprises, the only Premier League team to fall were Crystal Palace who were undone by a late winner from Wigan winger James McClean.

Away wins for the two Welsh Premier League clubs will have settled growing nerves in St David’s country as Swansea came from behind to beat Birmingham and Cardiff narrowly overcame at tricky trip to Bolton.

Hull and Sunderland were tipped to be the giants being killed by the minnows before the weekend but they both just about edged their way into Round Five along with Southampton who won at home to Yeovil.

Finally, it was a good away day for the Championship clubs with Charlton, Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton all winning on the road and putting themselves in the draw that will take place just before six o’clock this evening.
