Tom Cleverley was heavily linked with a switch to either Everton or Aston Villa ahead of deadline day, but after last ditch negotiations failed, he remains a Manchester United player despite knowing the fact he has no role to play at Old Trafford, Skysports reports.
The English midfielder was on the verge of a move to Villa and having been on standby at the clubs training ground, the potential transfer eventually broke down.
With news of this, Cleverley was again under talks with Everton as things eventually got from bad to worst after a move to Goodison Park failed as well.
After already being told that he doesn’t have a part to play under new manager Louis van Gaal, the 25-year-old may now spend the first half of the season watching his teammates from the sidelines.
Two other United stars who were deemed surplus to the Dutch manager has already left Old Trafford with Javier Hernandez joining Real Madrid on a season-long loan, while Danny Welbeck sealed his permanent switch to Arsenal for a fee of £16million.
