Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez could yet remain at the club if his family make the move from Argentina, according to his agent. The Argentine international’s future has been the subject of constant speculation since he handed in a transfer request last December.
Tevez said on June 8 club owner Sheikh Mansour had given him permission to leave if he wished.
But his agent, Kia Joorabchian, said on Sunday the 27-year-old was trying to settle a move for his family, a key reason Tevez has wanted to move closer to home.
“I don’t think speculation about Carlos leaving is fair at the moment,” he told The Daily Star Sunday.
“I don’t think money is a consideration. Maybe it’s a case of his family coming over to him.”
“That’s something he’s trying to sort out. I’m sure in the next week he will sort the family issue out.”
“Once he does, he will announce it and everyone will be in a better place.”
City, who won the FA Cup, claimed a UEFA Champions League spot by finishing third in the English Premier League last season.
Joorabchian said Tevez had not asked to leave Eastlands and the side’s potential would also go towards convincing him to remain.
“If you look at the team they are going to get stronger and stronger and, if Carlos stays, they would be my favourite to win the title,” he said.
“I’m sure that will be a factor in his mind and the fact that City fans have embraced him will count for a lot along with his great relationship with the supporters.”
“I think all these factors will be positives for him to stay. Carlos has not made any decision to move.”
“We have not asked to leave the club.”
