Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will make his long-awaited return from injury against Hull City at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Ferdinand, 30, has not made an appearance for the Premier League champions since October 25 after admitting defeat in his battle to manage a long-running back problem.
Sir Alex Ferguson constantly denied suggestions that Ferdinand’s season could be over and the United boss has now revealed that the England defender will face the Tigers.
Fellow first-choice centre-half Nemanja Vidic is still sidelined with a calf problem.
“I think Rio will play against Hull, which is good news,” confirmed Ferguson.
“He’s been training very well in the last two weeks so it’s time to bring him back.
“It’s a big boost because we’ve had a rough time at the back with Rio, Edwin van der Sar, Wes Brown, Jonny Evans, Nemanja Vidic and John O’Shea all being injured at one stage or another.”
Meanwhile, Ferguson has also revealed that Dimitar Berbatov will return to the squad after missing the midweek Carling Cup semi-final first leg defeat to Manchester City.
The Bulgaria striker has been troubled by a knee problem in recent weeks and picked up a dead leg in last weekend’s 3-0 league win over Burnley.
