Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been fined £8,500 by UEFA for refusing to speak with the media after the Red Devils’ 2-1 defeat at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League last month.
The Daily Mail report that Ferguson was so furious with the decision to send midfielder Nani off for a high foot that he refused to fulfil his post-match responsibilities.
Nani has received a one match ban for his challenge on former Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa that lead to Jose Mourinho’s Madrid side coming from behind to knock United out of the Champions League.
UEFA have decided not to give the Portuguese midfielder the usual three match ban and also deliberated against giving Ferguson a touchline ban for European competitions which was expected.
The intense tie ultimately turned on the sending off decision made by the Turkish referee but Ferguson may have said something he regretted if he came straight off of the pitch and into a press conference.
