The £50 million attacker has been under pressure to deliver after a slow start to his time at Stamford Bridge, but seems to be getting back to his best with impressive performances of late.
Torres scored a first half brace in the 5-0 rout of Genk in the Champions League in midweek, and his colleagues have backed him to continue in this fashion.
“I always said there is no question about Fernando, because he’s really great,” Branislav Ivanovic told Mirror Football.
“We are happy to have him like this on the pitch. Fernando knows what he has to do on the pitch and I think everyone wants to see him play like he did against Genk in a lot of games this season.
“As a team, we expect more goals from him this season. It’s important to have the big squad and the big players who can decide games.
“Fernando showed his quality in his play and how he will fight for the team. Goals are important for the confidence of strikers. He is working hard for the team,” the Serbia international stated.
Fellow forward Salomon Kalou also backed Torres to continue scoring, and feels he is contributing to the team’s chances of success.
“It’s good to have Fernando at his top level and, again, you need that if you’re going to go a long way in the competition. He’s a great player and sometimes you just have to give them time to get their fitness back and return to their best form,” he concluded.
After being sent off against Swansea earlier in the season, Torres is suspended as Andre Villas Boas’ men take on QPR at Loftus Road on Sunday.
