Although talk of Asmir Begovic leaving the Britannia Stadium hasn’t been as strong as it has been in the past – it was rife when Manchester United weren’t sure on David de Gea, Liverpool were looking to replace Pepe Reina and Wojciech Szczesny lacked that consistency for Arsenal – many still believe he deserves to be playing at a higher level.
The Stoke City ‘keeper is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s finest goalkeepers, with rumours of interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid cropping up earlier in the season.
The Bosnian international isn’t thinking about that at the moment, though and is firmly focused on the task in hand with Mark Hughes’ side. He said:
“My future is here at Stoke as far as I’m concerned
“We’ve got a lot of games coming up and I’m hoping to be a big part of that. “I’ve been here a few years now and enjoyed my time. I’ve really settled in and had a lot of support from the staff.
“We all have ambitions and goals. I work really hard to get better and try to improve as a player, and hopefully test myself at the highest level possible level in the future. Who knows whether that opportunity will present itself?
“We’ll see what the future holds but I’m not thinking too far ahead.”
