Paul Merson has stated that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would never sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic because the striker would question his methods.
The Swedish hitman is a free agent this summer and looks set to leave Paris Saint-Germain ahead of next season.
Ibrahimovic may well end up in the Premier League as a result, with a host of the leading clubs thought to be toying with the idea of making a move for him.
However, Merson has stated that Arsenal won’t be making a move for the Scandinavian due to Wenger being worried about the striker’s outspoken personality.
“Ibrahimovic is a winner. He’s won 13 trophies in so many leagues,” Merson said on Sky Sports.
“Of course, Wenger isn’t going to sign him because he’s going to question him.
“He doesn’t want someone sitting in the dressing room questioning him. He doesn’t want people to come in after the game and start tearing it up. He just wants people to come in and recover.”
Arsenal fans have implored the club to sign a world-class striker in recent years but Wenger has shown faith in Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.
Ibrahimovic famously turned down a trial at Arsenal when he was a teenager and has gone on to be one of the most respected strikers of a generation.
