Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has hinted that former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas could become the Blues’ next captain, Daily Star reports.
Fabregas made a £30million move from Barcelona to Stamford Bridge this past summer and according to Mourinho, the Spaniard is capable of replacing John Terry as the club’s new skipper.
Before Chelsea’s 6-0 demolition over NK Maribor on Tuesday, the Portuguese manager hailed the 27-year-old’s attitude and professionalism.
Mourinho said: “He is a better guy than I thought.”
“He’s a fantastic guy, he’s a fantastic professional.
“Now I understand why at the age of 19 or 20 or 21 he was Arsenal captain.”
‘The Special One’ added: “When I am the manager at Chelsea the armband will go to another arm that has been in this club for many many years.
“But one thing is [the leader’s] brain needs to be connected with the manager, and his brain is connected to mine during matches.”
Fabregas has had a fantastic start to the campaign, scoring two goals and supplying nine assists in all competitions.
