Former Chelsea boss eyeing Stoke stopper

Goalkeeper - Asmir Begovic

Napoli manager Rafa Benitez is planning a January move for Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, according to The Sun.

The former Chelsea and Liverpool manager still has funds to spend at the Italian club and wants Begovic to replace current loanee Pepe Reina between the sticks in January.

Reina is expected to move permanently back home to Spain at the end of this season leaving Begovic as the number one for Napoli if they can fight off interest from Atletico Madrid for the Bosnian.

Stoke have allowed England ‘keeper Jack Butland to move on loan to Championship club Barnsley for one month but they hope the 20 year old will be the long term number one at the Britannia.

The Potters may allow Begovic to leave in January if the fee is acceptable due to the exceptional cover already at the club, but new boss Mark Hughes would hope to spend the money made on a much needed new striker for his new-look Stoke side.
