Former Manchester United ace Gerard Pique has claimed that Barcelona will not be able to win the Premier League, according to reports from the Telegraph.
Pique was signed by the European champions from Man United back in the summer of 2008 for £5million, and the Spaniard went on to become one of the best defenders in the world during that period.
However, the 28-year-old believes that his all conquering Barcelona side that won the UEFA Champions League last season will struggle in the English top flight, insisting that away games to the likes of Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion would hand them a difficult task.
“I think that if Barcelona or Real Madrid goes to the Premier League then the first year of playing there, there is no chance of winning it,” he said.
“Yes, I think so, because if you go to Stoke, or other types of teams, then it will be really tough.”
Pique went on to add that although Red Devils captain Wayne Rooney is going through a difficult period, he believes that the England international will find his form sooner rather than later if his team-mates create the necessary chances.
He added: “When I was there [at United – from 2004-08] he was really young and I was really young too and he helped me a lot. He involved me in the team, helped me to learn English. He was the joker in the dressing room. I have great memories.
“It’s true he’s getting older, we all have to accept that, but he has the ability to play for a long time. And, you know, when you don’t score sometimes it is not because of you. Sometimes it’s maybe the team is not creating chances for you.”
The centre-back has won five La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues since his move from Man United.
