Former Premier League midfielder urges Chelsea to sign Man United flop

Chelsea should sign current on loan Manchester United striker, Radamel Falcao, that is according to Sky Sports pundit and former Arsenal midfielder, Paul Merson.

Falcao has managed just four goals for Louis van Gaal’s side so far this campaign, and has again lost his starting spot for today’s clash with Everton after leading the line in the recent 1-0 defeat to Chelsea – a game in which the striker failed to register a shot on target.

It isn’t yet known whether Manchester United will take Falcao on a permanent deal from Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco, however, Merson believes that Chelsea should swoop if the Red Devils reject the former Atletico Madrid player.

Chelsea currently possess Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Didier Drogba as their three recognised strikers, however, despite Costa’s goalscoring exploits, the Spanish international is injury prone, Drogba’s age is catching up on him and Remy, although impressed when given a chance, isn’t a world-class striker.

Merson, speaking to Sky Sports, said:

“Watching that [Falcao’s performance for United at Stamford Bridge] last week, I think Chelsea would take him at £15million – they need another centre forward,”

“Whatever happens next season, to be successful in the Premier League and in Europe, they need another centre forward badly, because when Costa hasn’t played they’ve missed him.”

“If he went down to £15m then I think there would be a lorry load of teams after him. He is a good player and I think he’ll get fitter and fitter.

“He hasn’t really had a season; he has only been in and out. He needs to play 20 games and then I think he’ll be back to where was when, for me, he was one of the best centre forwards in world football,”
