Manchester United ace Sergio Romero turned down the opportunity to leave Old Trafford despite his lack of playing time, Express reports.
The 29-year-old has been unable to overtake star man David de Gea to a regular role between the sticks under Louis van Gaal and has constantly been linked with a departure.
Argentine news outlet Nexogol has claimed that River Plate offered Romero the chance to replace current keeper Marcelo Barovero, but he decided turned down the opportunity.
He admitted that he was not keen on leaving Europe while adding that he will only return to Argentina if it is to play for his childhood club Racing Club.
However, he could still have a future with the Red Devils given that De Gea is still being targeted by European giant Real Madrid as well as Paris Saint-Germain.
They have already made Barcelona keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen one of their potential targets, with Romero likely to be given another chance to impress should the mentioned deal fail to materialize.
