The relationship between Fulham and Clint Dempsey looks set to deteriorate even further, after the club made a complaint to the Premier League over Liverpool’s pursuit of the midfielder, according to reports by The Guardian.
“The Premier League has received a complaint from Fulham FC regarding certain comments made by Liverpool FC officials and is currently looking into the matter”, a league statement said.
It comes after Brendan Rodgers publicly acknowledged that Liverpool had made an enquiry for the player, as well as an article appearing on Fenway Sport’s Group website NESN.com, appearing to claim the Texan had already signed for the club.
Fulham Manager, Martin Jol, feels the USA international has been too distracted by the Reds’ interest to be able to play, consequently leaving him out of the opening-day 5-0 demolition of Norwich City.
Dempsey will also not be included in the squad to face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday
“It’s the same situation. There has been no formal bid on the table and nothing has changed,” Jol said.
Despite this being a saga seemingly dragging on, Liverpool have yet to place a formal bid for the player – valued at £9 million by Fulham.
