Manchester United manager David Moyes left it too late to sign Roma ace Daniele De Rossi according to coach Rudi Garcia.
Sky Sports News have quoted Garcia saying that the Rome club would listen to offers for their star man if offers came in before a certain date in the summer.
However, Manchester United missed that deadline and made contact with the Italians too late.
De Rossi and Roma both agreed that a move away from Serie A could be a possibility if a big bid came in and United were keen to make that bid.
After being rejected by Roma, Moyes went on to sign Marouane Fellaini at the end of the transfer deadline but there is no doubt De Rossi would have been the ideal fit in the Red Devils midfield.
“In the summer we talked about his future. He is from Rome, but there were some big clubs looking at him,” Garcia said.
“I told him that I could not lose him last minute, so we set a date after which no-one would leave. That is exactly what happened.
“A few days after the first Serie A match of the season, Manchester United called the club and called him, but the date had passed and he didn’t move.”
