Avram Grant is still hoping to be able to bring new players into cash-strapped Portsmouth during the current transfer window.
The ailing south coast club remain under a transfer embargo and were threatened with a winding up order by HM Revenue & Customs last week.
The players were not paid on time last month – the third time that has happened during a turbulent season – but Grant is remaining optimistic of being able to strengthen his rock-bottom squad in January.
"January is very important. It's only January when we can bring in players," he said.
"I am not a fan of bringing in players in January, but we do need to make the team stronger.
"The players are positive, though I don't think happy is the right word for the situation.
"But they are positive and I respect their spirit very much. Even in this situation, they are trying to do their best."
