Manchester City manager-in-waiting Pep Guardiola wants to sign Schalke star Leroy Sane this summer according to The Daily Star, with the Catalan coach keen to win the £35 million race for the winger ahead of Manchester United.
The 20-year-old has been a sensation in Gelsenkirchen and was included in Germany’s provisional squad for Euro 2016 recently, despite only having one full international cap to his name.
Sane started 23 games for Schalke in 2015-16, scoring eight goals, and is widely regarded as one of the brightest prospects of a generation for the European nation.
City are expected to revamp their squad upon Guardiola’s arrival, with a war chest available to the current Bayern Munich boss to bring in the players he wants.
The former Barcelona boss has had the chance to monitor Sane closely during his time in Germany and is said to be a major admirer of the versatile forward.
United are also interested in the German and as such a summer tug-of-war for the 20-year-old’s signature between the two Manchester clubs could well be forthcoming.
