QPR manager Harry Redknapp believes that the club’s £8m purchase of Loic Remy and £6m pursuit of Yann M’Vila are justified.

The Super Hoops are currently rock bottom of the Premier League and face the possibility of relegation to the second-tier.

In a bid to steer clear of the drop, the Londoners showed they are willing to spend big, securing Remy for a club record fee.

He was believed to be close to joining Newcastle, but Rangers offered him a bumper salary to choose Loftus Road.

Redknapp feels that his spending is not reckless and said that newly promoted Southampton’s deals for Gaston Ramirez and Jay Rodriguez show how important it is to stay in the league:

"You've got to try. The reward for staying up is so big. In the summer this club brought in players on big wages but didn't pay big transfer fees for anyone.” He is quoted by The Mirror.

"But look at Southampton, they paid £12m and £6m for two players in the summer."

M’Vila is believed to be close to sealing a £6m move to QPR, and Redknapp admitted that the player will be using the club as a stepping stone as he looks for an eventual move to one of England’s top teams:

"I had to make him feel he is wanted. That he would come here and be a big player and that if in two years he does well in QPR - and shows what he is capable of doing - maybe a Manchester United, Arsenal or a Chelsea will come in.

"If he does well here, and we can build a good team in the next few years and stay in the Premier League, hopefully he will stay with us.”
