Recent loan signing Hatem Ben Arfa is determined to make his mark after making his Newcastle United debut in the 2-0 weekend home loss to Blackpool.

The 23-year-old France winger appeared as a substitute against the Seasiders and was thrilled by a warm reception from the St James' Park faithful.

He told The Chronicle:"For me to lose in my first game really stings. It really spoils it for me to lose a game like that.

"I wanted to begin with a victory, but it has gone now and we can only look forward to the next set of games.

"I was very, very surprised by the reception that I got, but of course very pleased. I am genuinely touched by the welcome that the Newcastle fans have given me.

"Now this just makes me even more determined to do well for them, score some goals and win some matches."

Meanwhile, manager Chris Hughton is confident that Ben Arfa will eventually make a major impact.

He added:"There's no doubt he's got ability, we knew that before he came.

"He's feeling his way in. The language can be a little bit of a problem and getting used to the tempo of the Premier League.

"These are all factors. There's no doubt he has ability and I'm quite sure we'll be seeing a lot more of him."
