Holden earns Bolton chance

USA international midfielder Stuart Holden has secured a contract at Bolton Wanderers running until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has been training with the Trotters for a couple of weeks, having left MLS side Houston Dynamo at the end of the 2009 season in the States.

Holden, who was born in Scotland, has won 12 caps for his country to date and is eager to impress as he tries to secure a place in the US squad for the World Cup finals in South Africa.

He told his new club's official website:"Having had a short spell over here when I was younger, I knew all about the passion for football in this country and that helped to draw me back.

"The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world and I was really excited when this opportunity came up. Now I am looking forward to getting involved and getting started.

"The manager had watched a couple of games and I had spoken with him on the phone, and it surprised me how much he knew about my playing style and my career.

"It really drew me to him, along with the way that the teams he has managed play their football.

"Putting all the other offers aside, it was a no-brainer because Bolton Wanderers were the only option for me."
