Manchester United have emerged as the firm favourites in the betting market to secure Zlatan Ibrahimovic to a contract.

The former Sweden international is currently without a club after United opted against triggering a one-year extension on his previous deal.

The 35-year-old was struck down with a serious knee injury towards the latter stages of the 2016-17 season.

It was a disappointing end to a positive campaign for the striker, who netted 17 goals and created five assists in 30 Premier League outings for Jose Mourinho's side.

Since then, Ibrahimovic has been working towards full fitness with the help of United's medical team.

It is believed that the former Barcelona forward is aiming to be ready for action by November, and he is keen to pull on that red shirt once again.

According to the Daily Star, Ibrahimovic is prepared to take a significant drop in wages to rejoin United on a short-term contract.

The reports have certainly been reflected in the betting market, with Sky Bet offering odds of 1/8 for the striker to put pen to paper on a new deal, while Paddy Power has slashed its odds to 1/25.

Ibrahimovic's goal threat has not been sorely missed due to the arrival of Romelu Lukaku, who joined from Everton earlier in the summer transfer window.

The Belgian has scored three Premier League goals in his first two outings this season.
