Manchester United target Ivan Perisic is on the verge of signing a new contract at Inter Milan, unless the Premier League giants table a £48m bid, according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

What's the story?

The Croatian has been linked to the Red Devils all summer, but the speculation so far has not resulted in a deal.

It is believed that United have been tussling with Inter for weeks regarding Perisic, who the Daily Star claims has been on Jose Mourinho's wishlist since the end of last season.

The latest development - reported by Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol - is that the 28-year-old winger could sign a new deal at the San Siro within the next few days.

What should United do?

The Red Devils showed on Sunday in their opening Premier League match of the season that they are in good shape.

The team, who earned a 4-0 win over West Ham United at Old Trafford, look more like a Mourinho-type group.

Perisic's arrival would just strengthen an already well-quipped selection of players, who could launch a serious challenge for the Premier League title.

The Croatian has a strong work ethic and his versatility would allow Mourinho to use him in a variety of attacking options on either side of the pitch.

The question is not over whether Perisic is good enough, but more whether the hassle of negotiations with Inter is worth it.

The move has been dragging on all summer, and given his lack of Premier League experience, it is not ideal for the winger to be thrown into the deep end.

On top of that, if Perisic is genuinely considering signing a new deal at the San Siro, then his desire to join United must be questioned.
