Stuttgart forward Cacau has been ruled out of Sunday's World Cup last-16 clash between Germany and England with the abdominal muscle strain he sustained during training on Friday.
The 29-year-old played a part in all three of Germany's group games and started as a lone striker in the vital 1-0 win against Ghana earlier in the week.
"This injury means that he cannot play against England," manager Oliver Bierhoff told www.dfb.de.
"We are working to ensure he will be fit for the next game, we are confident he will be."
Bastian Schweinsteiger and Jerome Boateng are set to undergo fitness tests on Saturday, with Bierhoff adding: "We will see if their injuries have recovered enough for them to take a full part in training with the rest of the team."
