Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has confirmed that both Titus Bramble and Asamoah Gyan face spells on the sidelines.

The duo missed Monday’s 2-2 draw with Everton, Bramble with a knee problem which may require surgery and Gyan with a thigh injury.

Bruce confirmed: “Asamoah picked up a thigh injury playing for Ghana while Titus has nicked the meniscus in his knee and may need an operation.”

Meanwhile, assistant boss Eric Black sang the praises of Danny Welbeck following the draw, after the player, who is on loan from Manchester United, scored both goals against Everton.

He said:“He is an exceptionally good player. I see him every day in training and he has got fantastic ability.

“He has now got the confidence. Probably what has stunted his development is he has not been able to play regular football week in, week out. He is now getting that opportunity and he has grasped it.

“He has got phenomenal potential – that’s probably why he is at one of the biggest clubs in the world – but hopefully he is flourishing here and hopefully we can hang on to him for as long as possible.”
