After today’s breaking news that Andre Villas-Boas has been sacked as Spurs manager, the hunt for a new manager is under way at the north London side. Having spent a lot of money to replace Gareth Bale, the next appointment of this recently refurbished Tottenham side, will have a lot of pressure to turn around the run of bad form.
Pundits are claiming that Fabio Capello is the favourite to take to the dugout at White Hart Lane. Having worked closely with Tottenham Sporting Director, Franco Baldini in the past, the Italian is a likely candidate.
Former Spurs legend, Glenn Hoddle is also being heavily linked with the vacancy, given his popularity at Tottenham. Gary Lineker tweeted early today, stating: “AVB has been sacked by Spurs. Would love to see Glenn Hoddle given another chance at this level. Has a brilliant football mind.” Having managed Tottenham back in 2001 until 2003, Lineker feels the ex-England international manager can still deliver results at this level.
Paddy Power prices Guus Hiddink and Michael Laudrup at 11/2, with Guus Hiddink already having a feel for life in London after his brief caretaker spell at Chelsea back in 2009. However, the Spurs fans may not take kindly to the arrival of a former Blues boss. Swansea manager, Michael Laudrup would encourage exciting and attractive football philosophies and with a squad full of flair – the likes of Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Andros Townsend to name a few – the attractive football would surely appeal to the Tottenham support.
The departure of Andre Villas-Boas has left a squad full of talent, but the expense of the squad comes with risk to succeed. Any successor will have a huge amount of pressure on their shoulders to deliver results.
