With the north London club missing out on Champions League football for next season a number of their star players have been linked with exits from White Hart Lane, with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United and the Blues all interested in Modric.
The Serbian full-back has urged the diminutive midfielder to jump ship, with success at a bigger club potentially on the cards.
“Chelsea need a player like him,” Ivanovic told Sportske Novosti, translated to English by Sky Sports.
“He is a really great player and wouldn’t need long to adapt to a new club.
“He has been playing in England for a while now, he knows the Premier League, he has the right mentality and knows how to play on the level required at Chelsea.
“I’m sure that he needs something new in his career. He needs to move to a bigger club.
“I believe at Chelsea he would become an even better player. I urge him to come to Chelsea – he won’t regret it,” he concluded.
Chelsea have already signed Eden Hazard, Kevin De Bruyne and Marko Marin this summer.
