As reported by The Daily Record, Celtic star Emilio Izaguirre is desperate to extend his stay at the club and remain in Glasgow for the next three years.

What's the story?

Despite limited playing opportunities at the Hoops due to the emergence of Kieran Tierney, Izaguirre remains a popular figure with supporters and his fellow players. He's key to the squad too. When Tierney got injured this season the Honduran international stepped in and performed to a high level seamlessly, which is the kind of depth Celtic need if they are to compete domestically and in Europe next season.

With Brendan Rodgers utilising an option in his contract to extend his say at the club for another year, Izaguirre is ready for a more long-term commitment and sees himself playing at the Hoops for the next three years.

As quoted by The Daily Record, the left-back said:

I am proud to have played for Celtic for so long and grateful to the fans and the board. The Celtic manager has told me he wants to keep me. My wish is to stay for three more years with my family and then go to the MLS for two years and finish my career for four or five years at Motagua in Honduras. I have won many trophies and been treated well in Glasgow. God willing, that's where my future will be.

It's clear from his words that he absolutely loves being a Celtic player and if he maintains the level of performance he has over the last seven season then we can't see the club being in any rush to move him on.

At 31 he has little resale value and loads to offer the Hoops. A three year stay in Glasgow would see him serve ten years at the club and likely see him win many more trophies.
