Johnson over the worst

Liverpool defender Glen Johnson is hoping to make his return from a knee ligament injury before the end of March.

Johnson, who joined the Reds in a £17million deal from Portsmouth in June 2009, has been sidelined since picking up the injury during the 1-0 Premier League victory over Aston Villa on December 29.

The England right-back has missed the last eight games, but has now set his sights on returning to training in the coming weeks ahead of a first-team comeback.

"I'm definitely over the worst of it now and I'm about two or three weeks away from training, so I'm getting there," he told the club's official website.

"It's been like groundhog day. I've been doing the same things, working in the gym and doing stability work.

"Every day has been the same for the last two weeks, but now I've started to run, things can change.

"I don't expect to walk back into the side and play but I am doing everything I can to be in the best shape possible."

The former Chelsea and West Ham full-back had made 21 appearances and scored two goals for the Anfield club before picking up his injury.
