Jose Mourinho insists Manchester City can beat Catalan giants

Jose Mourinho has put pressure on Barcelona by stating that the current Catalan side are the “worst Barcelona team in years”, according to the Daily Mail.

This scathing attack has come before Barcelona face Manchester City in a Champions League clash at the Etihad on Tuesday night.

Although they are not as dominant in La Liga as previous years – at the moment in a three-horse race with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid – Gerardo Martino’s team are still considered the favorites to regain the Champions League title in Lisbon.

Mourinho, however, sees it differently.

“Of course by history Barcelona is the favourite, but this Barcelona, this season, is showing that it is not the same in previous years,” Mourinho told ITV.

“’Of course they have (Lionel) Messi, he is special, and they have more than him.

“But I think this is the worst Barcelona of many many years, so City have a chance.”

The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ returned to the Premier League quieter than his previous stint, but has lately picked on Arsenal’s long trophy wait as well as City’s transfer market expenditure.

His comments on Barcelona only serve to increase the expectation on Pellegrini’s side, but Mourinho could do with the Citizens shifting focus from the English Premier League to the Champions League.
