Jose Mourinho has moved to play down stories linking Chelsea with a move for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane, reports the Evening Standard.
Varane is a player Mourinho knows well from his time at Real Madrid, with the Portuguese coach the man responsible for giving the French defender his break in the first team.
Mourinho described the 21-year-old as the best young defender in the world last summer, and has been strongly linked with a move considering Varane has managed just 34 La Liga starts in his four years at the club.
And whilst Mourinho admits Varane is a player he admires, he says he does not see him signing for Chelsea in the future.
“I Like Varane, but everybody knows that he will stay at Real Madrid,” Mourinho told Telefoot.
“France has a lot of good players like Varane, Pogba, Benzema and Lloris. They can win Euro 2016. I have a lot of respect for Deschamps. In the World Cup, we saw a great French team.”
Meanwhile, Mourinho heaped praise on compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, adding: “Ronaldo’s an incredible player. It’s like Zidane for you [the French], there will be no other. He is incredible, he’s a goalscoring machine.”
