Manchester United playmaker Juan Mata believes that his compatriot David de Gea has no reason to leave Old Trafford this summer, despite links to Champions League holders Real Madrid.
The shot-stopper, who has once again been linked with a big-money move to the Spanish capital, has been the main man in the red half of Manchester for seasons now, winning the last three Player of the Year awards.
The former Atletico Madrid man, who will not feature in the Europa League final against Ajax next week, has made over 260 appearance for the Red Devils, keeping just shy of 100 clean sheets in his time there.
However, teammate Mata feels that there is no need for the 26-year-old to move on just yet. The former Chelsea man told the Press Association (via Manchester Evening News):
“Well, I think he is happy and I think he is obviously committed to the club. He has got a contract,
“He is obviously more than used to living England, he is happy in Manchester.
“For me, he is great – great person, great player. If not the best goalkeeper in the world, top three for sure.
“He gave us a lot of points during the last seasons, player of the season for the team, and obviously he is happy and I don’t see a reason for him to change.
“So let’s hope that he can save so many more goals for us.”
Manager Jose Mourinho will be hoping De Gea is at his best when they travel to Southampton on Wednesday night looking to return to winnings ways after successive losses to both Arsenal and Tottenham.
