Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that key striker Robin van Persie is set to miss the club’s clash with rivals Manchester City on April 12.
The cross-town rivals are embroiled in a real battle for second place this season, with the Premier League champions stumbling and the Red Devils picking up the pace.
The pair will go head-to-head at Old Trafford next weekend, with the result sure to have a major bearing on which team finishes higher come the end of the season.
Van Gaal has confessed that the Red Devils will more than likely have to make do without their Dutch destroyer for City’s visit.
“I don’t think so,” the BBC quote Van Gaal as saying when asked if Van Persie would be fit.
“The process has to give me signals he is ready for that but I know that from my experience it is not like that.”
Van Persie injured his ankle in a recent clash against Swansea and is also set to sit out today’s clash with Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
With City facing Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night, United can leapfrog their bitter rivals with three points against Tim Sherwood’s men this afternoon.
