Key West Ham United attacker Enner Valencia is set to miss the start of the new Premier League season after the talented forward picked up a serious injury in Europa League action on Thursday, as per The Guardian.
The Ecuador international was carried off the pitch in the Hammers’ 2-2 draw against Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu, with new boss Slaven Bilic confirming that the striker’s injury was serious and a prolonged period on the sidelines was expected.
Valencia is set to undergo tests with a specialist on Monday to determine the extent of the injury to his right knee and right ankle, which could well see him miss a significant portion of the new campaign.
The news will be a blow to Bilic and the Upton Park faithful, with the South American hitman an important member of the Hammers’ squad.
West Ham have been ambitious in the transfer window this summer, bringing Dimitri Payet, Pedro Obiang and Angelo Ogbonna to the London club.
