Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland remains hopeful that the Latics can persuade star players Charles N'Zogbia and Hugo Rodallega to remain with the club next season.

French winger N'Zogbia is a reported target for Birmingham City, while Colombia striker Rodallega is rumoured to be interesting Arsenal.

However, Kirkland is keen to see both men stay put and help Wigan try to improve next term.

He told the Wigan Observer:"It's vital we keep hold of those players, but we have to make sure they want to stay at the club by doing well on the field.

"And if they want to stay, the club has got to do all it can to keep hold of them. It's a different story if the players want to go, but that's for the club to sort out.

"Hopefully they'll see what the gaffer is trying to do here and they'll want to stay. They're big players for us and we don't want to lose them - that's for sure."Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
