Chelsea have confirmed that midfield anchor John Obi Mikel will miss the final two games of the season after being forced to undergo surgery on a knee injury.

The 23-year-old Nigeria international was injured in the 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge just under a month ago and lasted just over half an hour of the 2-1 loss at Spurs a week later.

A statement from the Blues read:"John Mikel Obi has undergone minor knee surgery and will take no part in Sunday's final Premier League match, nor the FA Cup final.

"The operation is due to an injury suffered when fouled by Bolton's Kevin Davies last month and subsequently led to Mikel's early substitution at Tottenham in the following match."

Mikel will miss the Premier League title decider at home to Wigan Athletic this weekend, while he is also ruled out of the FA Cup final against Portsmouth six days later.

The defensive midfielder joined the Blues in the summer of 2006 and has since racked up 165 appearances in all competitions, scoring a mere two goals.Subscribe to Football FanCast News Headlines by Email
