Real Madrid have made Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois their number one alternative to Manchester United ace David de Gea, according to reports from Don Balon.
De Gea was heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu since last summer, but the deal fell through in the last minute due to the Spanish Football Association failing to receive the proper paperwork before the transfer deadline.
This saw the La Liga giants make Keylor Navas their number-one goalkeeper, but Real are keen on having a big name in between the posts.
With Chelsea almost guaranteed to not qualify for next season’s Champions League campaign and De Gea penning a new Red Devils contract, the Madrid hierarchy are prepared to test the Blues’ resolve by making a bid for Courtois.
The Belgium international was already being eyed by Los Blancos when he was on loan at Atletico Madrid for two seasons, helping the club win La Liga in the 2013-2014 campaign.
