Lampard keen to secure starting spot

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has admitted that he wants to be a regular starter for his club, and feels he plays best when given an extended run in the side.

The England international has found a place in Andre Villas Boas’ starting XI hard to come by this season, as young prospects such as Oriol Romeu start to enter first team consideration.

Lampard scored the winner from the penalty spot against Manchester City on Sunday after coming off the bench, and has revealed that he has not spoken to the Portuguese coach in relation to the reasons that he has not been playing.

“We haven’t spoken at all so I don’t know,” he told Mirror Football.

“I just want to play and play well. I know I am always at my best when I play regularly and I have got a lot to give. I just want to be on the pitch and let the football do the talking.

“Thirty-three or not, I am fit as I have ever been. I was in a good run of form and now I am not playing so much. If I didn’t want to play, there would be no point in turning up so there was a bit of frustration there.

“I just want to play and I like to play well. I’m always at my best when I’m playing regularly. I know I’ve got a lot to give,” he concluded.
