Frank Lampard has stated his delight at starting for Chelsea against Valencia int he Champions League on Wednesday night, and is eyeing up a more regular place in the Stamford Bridge starting XI.
Andre Villas Boas has not used the England midfielder as frequently as his predecessors, and the veteran has had to make do with a spot on the bench for the last two Blues fixtures.
Rumours surrounding Lampard’s future starting to circle, as he looked a frustrated figure on the sidelines, but he was handed a start in Spain.
The midfielder repaid his coach’s faith by opening the scoring for the visitors in a 1-1 draw, and spoke of his happiness at being back playing after the game.
“I always want to play, that’s a given. I’ve been like that throughout my career,” he told reporters after the match.
“I love playing for this club. I am very proud of playing here. I’ve had knocks before in my career and it just makes me work harder to come back.”
Chelsea now travel to take on Bolton at the Reebok Stadium on Sunday, with Lampard eager to claim back-to-back starts.
